What Does an External Hemorrhoid Look like?

Hemorrhoids are a very common problem for people all over the world and they can occur in anyone at any time, although there are some people who are more susceptible to this unpleasant condition. External hemorrhoids on the other hand are less common and can present more problems than an internal hemorrhoid could do. External hemorrhoids are situated outside of the anus and are also known as a perianal haematoma. These can usually start with a small lump, which can look like a small red pea. Normally these can be quite painless to start with but then will become more and more itchy over time. You might also notice that your haemorrhoid is quite read and angry looking and if you have more than one day will look very much like a small bunch of grapes, hanging outside of the anus. Sometimes an external hemorrhoid will even be a dark purple colour, and this can be quite alarming for a person when they first take a look at it.

Depending on how severe your hemorrhoid is you might find that it grows quite dramatically in size and can even become unbearably painful. As this type of haemorrhoid is less common than an internal hemorrhoid you should seek the advice of your doctor as soon as you notice one forming.
